HYPER-TEXTS AND OTHER ARGUMENTS
Gino RONCAGLIA
In discussions on hyper-texts and philosophy, most scholars seem to agree on the idea that philosophical argumentation is fundamentally linear, and that hyper-textual writing can be used profitably only in cases where non-argumentative, or essentially non-argumentative forms of philosophical thought are involved: dialogues, aphorisms and forms which are generally considered "weak".
This position probably reflects the importance of the influence of Deconstruction, in particular, Derida, on the majority of discussions related to the concept of hypertext. This paper criticizes these theses, and refuses to accept both the idea concerning the fundamental linearity of argumentative thought and the idea that Deconstruction can provide a 'natural' bases for the concept of the hypertext.
